Good news for Filipinos who are looking for work abroad!
Ten thousand professionals and workers are needed immediately in the province of Alberta in Canada. They have a shortage of doctors, nurses, dentists, and caregivers, as well as engineers, machine operators, mechanics and pipe fitters.
The Canadian province of Alberta has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Philippines’ Department of Labor and Employment that will allow overseas Filipino workers to work in Canada.
OFWs in Canada earn higher wages. Nurses earn 4,500 Canadian dollars a month, pipe fitters earn 3,800 Canadian dollars a month.
And for the job applicant, all recruitment costs under the MoU will be covered by the employer in Canada. Neither the employment agency in Canada nor the recruitment or sending agency in the Philippines is allowed to charge any recruitment fees in any form from OFWs bound for Alberta.
The agreement does not only cover the recruitment of OFWs, but also the Human Resources Development wherein Alberta will invest to set up training opportunities in the Philippines to train or upgrade the skills of Filipinos. This will ensure Filipinos’ skills will meet occupational standards.
